DREAM STREET 2012
Sunday, May 27 – Saturday, June 2

Dear NFTY Southern-ite,

Shalom from Camp Dream Street!

For those of you unfamiliar with Camp Dream Street, it is NFTY Southern’s mitzvah corps project. For one week each summer, NFTYites and a volunteer upper staff (consisting largely of NFTY alumni) host an unparalleled camping experience for children with physical disabilities on the grounds of Henry S. Jacobs Camp. Dream Street belongs to our campers. It is an opportunity for them to grow and shine in a nurturing environment of friends and fun activities. At Dream Street, kids with disabilities are just kids having a great time at camp!

As a member of NFTY Southern, you are eligible and encouraged to apply to join the Dream Street team. If accepted, you will be paired one-on-one or two-on-one with a camper between the ages of seven and fourteen. As a counselor, your camper will be your first priority and your 24-hour-a-day responsibility. Camper and counselor pairs spend the entire week together and often develop a relationship that truly impacts both lives. We recommend that you talk to some of the many Dream Street veterans to get a more vivid sense of what camp will be like and the experiences you will have. They will surely tell you that being a Dream Street counselor is hard work, but all of your efforts help to create an incredibly rewarding experience for both you and your camper.

Please fill out the following application and submit it online no later than February 28, 2012. Take care to fill it out thoroughly and completely. We also ask that you submit the application in a timely manner. Any applications received after the due date will be considered only if space is available. You will be contacted in the late spring regarding the status of your application.

Please check your school calendar now to make sure that you can take off the full week of Dream Street. If you have exam conflicts, we are happy to write a letter to your school requesting permission for you to take them early. Counselors will not be allowed to arrive late to Dream Street or to leave early. Therefore, we highly encourage you to explore this option, and we will do whatever we can to work with your school and teachers.

Feel free to contact Kimberly, Mike, or Traci with questions. Don’t pass up the chance to be a part of this incredible program. Camp Dream Street 2012 will certainly be an amazing experience for all who accept the challenge and join in the fun!

Sincerely,
