DREAM STREET 2010
Sunday, May 30 – Saturday, June 5

Dear NFTY Southern-ite,

Shalom from Camp Dream Street!

For those of you unfamiliar with Camp Dream Street, it is NFTY Southern’s mitzvah corps project. For one week each summer, NFTYites and a volunteer staff, consisting largely of NFTY alumni, host an unparalleled camping experience for children with physical and/or related cognitive disabilities on the grounds of Henry S. Jacobs Camp, the URJ camp of the southern region. Dream Street belongs to our campers. It is an opportunity for them to grow and shine in a nurturing environment of friends and fun activities. At Dream Street, kids with disabilities are just kids having a great time at camp!

The Dream Street staff is working hard to ensure that Dream Street 2010 is as great a success as its predecessors. Camp is steadily approaching and we are already recruiting campers and staff, planning programs, and working on new ideas for the upcoming summer. All that’s missing is you!

As a member of NFTY Southern, you are eligible and encouraged to apply to join the Dream Street team. If accepted, you will be paired one-on-one or two-on-one with a camper between the ages of seven and fourteen. Camper and counselor pairs spend the entire week together and often develop a relationship that truly impacts both lives. As a counselor, your camper will be your first priority and your 24-hour-a-day responsibility. We recommend that you talk to some of the many Dream Street veterans to get a more vivid sense of what camp will be like and the experiences you will have. They will surely tell you that being a Dream Street counselor is hard work, but all of your efforts help to create an incredibly rewarding experience for both you and your camper.

The process of becoming a member of the Dream Street staff begins right now! Click the link below and fill out the online counselor application, answer the questions, and submit the application by Sunday, March 14, 2010. Staff positions are limited, so be sure to submit the application by the deadline! You will be contacted in the spring about the status of your application.

Don’t pass up the chance to be a part of this incredible program. Camp Dream Street 2010 will certainly be an amazing experience for all who accept the challenge and join in the fun!

Sincerely,

Kyle Goldich

P.S. Please contact Kyle, Ellie, or Gary with any questions. Also, please check your school calendar early to make sure that you can take off the full week of Dream Street (May 30 - June5). If you have exam conflicts, we are happy to write a letter to your school requesting permission for you to take them early. Counselors will not be allowed to arrive late to Dream Street or to leave early. Therefore, we highly encourage you to explore this option, and we will do whatever we can to work with your school and teachers.
